The "BC United" girls soccer team is organized under the Semiahmoo SC in South Surrey - White Rock.
Purpose This is the first team to take advantage of the SSC 'Ambassador Program' which is structured to allow teams to compete at international soccer tournaments during the summer season. Exposure at the international level gives the players a unique opportunity to determine how their soccer play matches up against their peers from other countries. It will help them develop a deeper appreciation for the global game of soccer while they forge new friendships and life changing experiences.
Taking a team outside the normal boundaries of local regional soccer play will also allow Semiahmoo SC to see how it's own soccer development program compares to those in other clubs around the world and thus shape new ideas for improvement.
Roster The Semiahmoo SC 93 BC United team roster is made up of 19 players born in 1992 and 1993. 16 players are on the Semiahmoo SC U17 Gold 1 Team and 3 players who come from various Soccer Clubs in the lower mainland.
Team Name The players chose the name 'BC United' to reflect their British Columbia Hertigage and the Unity that exists within the team both on and off the field - a key success factor when competing and traveling together.
European Tournaments The team departs on July 8th, 2009 to play in the two most prestigious and largest youth soccer tournaments in the world.
1. The Gothia Youth World Cup in Sweden on July 12th to July 18th (35,000 Athletes)
2. The Dana Cup in Denmark on July 20th to 26th (20,000 Athletes)
Preparation The players have been training extremely hard since April 2009, with 2 physically demanding training sessions and 1 fitness/conditioning session per week. This is in addition to the weekly soccer matches against top level opponents from American, Coastal Super-Y and local Rep Soccer Teams. Assisting the coaching staff in the team development and training are 3 highly qualified professional trainers: Mark Pennington (Technical Soccer Development), Marina Watson (Prime Fitness) and Helmut Wiebe (Goal Keeper Technician).
In the final month of training, the team will compete in 3 tournaments - Kelowna Invitational, Everett WA Exchange and the Baker Blast in Bellingham.
Support We appreciate the support of our parent club - Semiahmoo SC - who, under the leadership of it's president Darryl Jones, have embraced this vision and help make this trip a reality. We also offer up a huge thanks to our community sponsors who have given unselfishly to support the cost of training and equipping the team so that they are able to compete to the best of their abilities on the International Stage.
Sponsor Program A limited number opportunities exist to support this team. For details see our Sponsor Program Description.
